At ZIENER, we love winter sports and exercise in the great outdoors. At the same time, we address the ecological and social impact of our business activities. In addition to our commitment in our home town of Oberammergau, we take various aspects along our value chain into account, from the selection of certain materials and finishes to social standards in production.
Environmental responsibility
Water-repellent protection thanks to a functional DWR coating
In addition to the membrane, the DWR coating on the outer material supports protection against moisture and helps to maintain the breathability of the clothing. In developing and manufacturing its products, ZIENER relies on functional materials and innovative processing solutions and attaches importance to a conscious use of resources. The DWR technology used therefore works without the intentional addition of PFAS. ZIENER thus avoids the use of substances that are persistent and difficult to break down in the environment. At the same time, the coating is matched to the functional requirements of clothing in wintry conditions. Despite the conscious avoidance of PFAS, trace amounts cannot be entirely ruled out.
bluesign is a comprehensive solution provider for the textile industry, enabling sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. Based on a holistic approach, bluesign follows each textile product right along its production process and makes improvements at every stage – from manufacturing to the final product. Resource efficiency, consumer safety, air and water pollution as well as occupational health and safety are monitored. In its role as a solution provider and knowledge mediator, bluesign acts as an independent assessor to ensure trust and transparency. We have entered into this important partnership with bluesign to make our future collections even more environmentally sustainable.
ZIENER has further refined its climate targets and had them validated by the Science Based Targets initiative at the end of February 2026. The international organization confirmed that the targets are scientifically grounded and aligned with the 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement. With this validation, ZIENER reinforces its commitment to combating climate change. The family-owned company aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent by 2030 compared to the 2020 base year. The approved climate targets meet the highest requirements of the SBTi and apply exclusively to Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, covering emissions from the company’s own sites, energy generation, and vehicle fleet. A key measure for reducing emissions was already implemented in 2024: by converting both locations in Oberammergau to renewable energy sources — particularly biogas and green electricity — the company has already achieved significant progress.
Ziener is ClimatePartner-certified! This means that we have calculated our greenhouse gas emissions, defined reduction targets, continuously implement reductions and finance climate protection projects. With the ClimatePartner-certified label and the associated Climate ID website, we communicate transparently about these steps. ClimatePartner-certified companies include direct emissions generated within the company (electricity and heat generation, vehicle fleet, volatile gases) and indirect emissions from purchased energy, business travel and employee commuting The certification does not cover indirect emissions generated outside the company, e.g. from the manufacture of raw materials and preliminary products, external logistics and the use and disposal of products or other processes. More information can be found on the Climate-ID website.
Social responsibility
ZIENER is a member of the amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (amfori BSCI). This initiative aims to gradually improve working conditions in production facilities. An independent monitoring and qualification system ensures that snapshots of the social performance in the production facilities are provided. This is based on a comprehensive code of conduct that all members support. As an amfori member, ZIENER is committed to integrating its production facilities into this cycle of training and audits and to supporting the implementation of the amfori BSCI codes of conduct.
At Ziener, we are committed to a resource-conserving textile development process. As we always strive for optimal fit and quality for long-term use of the products, it is necessary to produce samples that are not for public sale. Surplus samples are given to our employees and the orphanage in Oberammergau is allowed to choose the items they want. We made a donation to FairWertung e.V. in 2023 in order to put leftover gloves and textiles to good use.
